The association recently held another yearly celebration honoring the early childhood profession. The month of the young child theme this year was “WHERE OUR FUTURE BEGINS… MAKE THEM COUNT!” Lots of activities were planned for the celebration this year. The signing of the proclamation by the Mayor declaring April as the month of the YOUNG CHILD.

Hamilton County participated in all types of fun and educational games. There were approximately 1,500 children present each day for the festivities. The caregivers took great pride in planning and providing the activities along with the board members and the community at large.

For the first time a Mini conference was held for two days, April 19-20. The presenters were from Zero to Three which is the nations leading non-profit resource on the first three years of life. Session two covered Preschool children. The presenter was Dr Pam Guess, a leading licensed Psychologist at UTC. Sessions three and four covered the role of the director, presented by Dr. Guess, and all you need to know about toddlers presented by Zero to Three.

The Mini conference was a great success for the community. It was also well attended by the pre-kindergarten teachers in the public school system. The celebration banquet was held April 19th, at 7:00 at the Chattanooga Choo-Choo Imperial Ballroom. The teachers were honored and given thanks for their hard work throughout the year. The speaker for the banquet was Ms Jacqueline Jordan, from Nashville, Tennessee. The Hilda Avant Services to Children Award was presented to our own Jackie Hill: She was most worthy of this prestigious award. The Lu Lewis Early Childhood Teaching Award was presented also presented to an outstanding teacher who works permeates out of the children's actions.

The 13th Annual Children's Advocacy Day in Nashville was a great success. The southeast Tennessee Council on Children and Youth sponsored this event and several both members participated in this most needy endeavor on behalf of children and youth. Our board member Anne Gamble was presented by the Children Services Award for her outstanding efforts in the community by the council on children and youth.

The Family Child Care conference was also held in April. A luncheon will be planned for all presenters who participated in our monthly training sessions for all the caregivers.
